POSITION SUMMARY
The Carrier Technical Manager will be part of the BlackBerry
Systems Engineering Group and will work alongside other systems
engineers. The CTM will be an integral part of carrier launch project
teams to achieve the business goals.
Specific Duties / Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary technical interface between the carrier and RIM's engineering community
- Deliver presentations, describing the technical merits of the BlackBerry solution to carrier organisations
- Formation and tracking of the technical components of network integration projects
- Assist in definition of and tracking development of unique operator requirements
- Manage and develop successful technical relationships with Network Operators
- Work with Product Marketing to communicate future Carrier requirements to Engineering
- Defining, planning and managing the execution of the device testing phases of the launch programme
- Initial investigation and filtering of technical issues during testing
- Prioritization of technical issues arising during testing and trials and management of the carrier problem log, resulting in successful carrier acceptance of product and / or software.
- Provide technical assistance to the internal carrier Business Unit, at all stages of the programme. This may include visiting external customers.
- Attend and participate in technical meetings with the carrier, in particular, roadmap, software and startup meetings / presentations
Qualifications:
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong technical education relating to hardware and software design or testing
- Previous work experience with handset/fixed network component manufacturer or telecom consultancy is desirable
- Strong technical understanding and experience with GSM/GPRS or other packet based wireless networks
- Capable of managing multiple engineering programmes, organizing and prioritizing testing and issue resolution activity.
- Engineering degree preferably with telecommunications content
- High degree of knowledge of GSM, GPRS and UMTS, TCP/IP, networking infrastructure. Someone who's familiar both with wireless and fixed networks.
- IT administration experience with MS Exchange and/or Lotus Domino preferred, but not essential.
- MCSE and MS 2000 qualified preferred, but not essential.
- Experience working with software development and field engineering resources
- Experience in requirements definition and management
- Experience of managing testing/trials programmes in an engineering environment
- Customer facing experience is a mandatory requirement.
- Experience working as junior BBSE or solid industry experience
