The Nigeria Northern Education Initiative (NEI) is a USAID-funded project that works Nigeria's two northern states of Bauchi and Sokoto. NE1 project is aimed at strengthening state and local govenment capacity to deliver basic education services by
addressing key issues in the management, sustainability, and oversight of basic education. The project is also increasing access of orphans and vulnerable children to basic education and services such as health information and counseling. 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following position: 

Job Title: OVC Program Assistant - Bauchi 

Reports to: Senior OVC Advisor, Bauchi. This position has no assigned supervisory duties 

Roles and Responsibilities
  1. Assist NEI state team in planning, designing, implementing, and monitoring OVC activities as well as communication, advocacy and community mobilization interventions to achieve project goals: 
  2. Support the design and implementation of training activities related to OVC as well as to communication, advocacy and community mobilization approaches (including Community Action Cycle and community coalition strategy) to achieve project goals; 
  3. Assist in all phases of project implementation, from research and conceptualization of campaigns and media materials (including radio program and other audio-visual communication materials) to assisting with project evaluation plans: 
  4. Assist in the development of project reports and materials, including drafting, editing and formatting curricula, reports, manuals, documents and other special materials as requested; 
  5. Provide programmatic and administrative SUPPOlt for state offices and backstopping for staff members, including contract management, preparation of project summaries, scope of work for consultants, budget calculation, tracking and review of'progress, monitoring of work plans; 
  6. Assisting in monitoring and supervising project grants and awards; 
  7. Interface with other NEI personnel,' other USAfD Implementing Partners' personnel, 
  8. Government counterparts, NGO partners, subcontractors, consultants and visitors regarding project acti vities. 
  9. Provide technical and administrative support to in-country workshops and/or meetings; 
  10. Set up and maintain project filing system for programmatic documents; 
  11. Coordinate staff meetings, visitors, and special events; 
  12. Take and share minutes of meetings as required; 
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, 
Qualification and experience
  1. Minimum of first Degree in Health, Education, Communication, Community Development, Social Sciences or related field; 
  2. At least 3 years experience in the field of Health, Education or Community Development; 
  3. Previous experience with OVC issues and/or with community mobilization approaches to achieve social development goals is required; 
  4. Fluency in oral and written English and Hausa is required 
  5. Knowledge of cultural context of Bauchi is required 
  6. Good computer skills are required 
  7. Previous working experience in Bauchi/Sokoto is an asset 
  8. Previous experience in designing and implementing communication strategies, including advocacy in the social sector is an asset 
  9. Previous experience working with a similar project or NGOs is an asset 
  10. Previous management experience is an asset. 
Other requirements
  1. Fluency in English (oral and written) 
  2. A great command of Ha usa language (is a key requirement) 
  3. Experience of working in Northern Nigeria is also required (previous experience in Bauchi is an asset).
