The Women for Health programme (W4H) is a five year DFID-funded health programme with the main objective of addressing the severe shortage of female health workers in five selected states in the Northern Nigeria. W4H is in full support of the MDG goals on reduction of child and maternal mortality especially in the selected Northern states in Nigeria and aims to address this through provision of female health
workers in order to encourage improved access to health for women.

The programme will address the critical health sector human resource challenges by using an approach which empowers women as service providers. W4H is operated by a consortium of three organizations, namely: Health Partners International UK, Save the Children, UK and GRID Consulting Nigeria. As the programme commences its activities in Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara and Yobe with coordination from the programme head office in Kano.

 We seek to engage qualified persons to fill the following positions:

1.) Senior State Programme Officers (SSPO): 5 Positions
  • This position will be based in each of the programme operating states: Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara, Yobe and Kano providing leadership at the state level. 
  • S/he will work in collaboration with necessary stakeholders to facilitate planning and implementation of all technical activities aimed at strengthening education, recruitment and training of female health workers. 
  • The SSPO will establish and maintain an effective working relationship with SMoH, LGA, representatives of local and international training institutions, private sector, and civil society groups.
  • Other responsibilities include; development of annual work plan and budget, management of consultants and state office support staff.

Qualification:
  • Candidates must hold a post graduate degree in Public Health or other health related field, Gender and Women Empowerment, Social Development with a minimum of 10 years' work experience. 
  • S/he must have good understanding of gender issues especially at primary level and health delivery system in Nigeria. 
  • Previous experience in health training, accreditation and curriculum development is necessary for this position. 
  • Other skills required for this position include; organizational, leadership, financial, strong advocacy/facilitation, and excellent computer skill especially in Microsoft Office packages. 
  • Previous experience in a similar role and environment will be an added advantage. 
  • Familiarity with the region and fluency in Hausa is essential for this position.

2.) State Programme Officers (SPO): 5 Positions
  • The State Programme Officers will be based in Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara, Yobe and Kano.
  •  S/he will provide support to the technical team of the programme at the state level to ensure effective programme management and technically support stakeholders in carrying out associated research and gender advocacy activities on female health workers. 
  • The SPO will work in close collaboration with stakeholders in the ministries, health professionals, civil societies, and other funding partners to jointly facilitate the planning and implementation of all technical activities aimed at reforming women's health through provision of adequate female health workers in the state.

Qualification:
  • Candidates must hold a post graduate degree in any of the Health Management related discipline or gender and women empowerment with a minimum of 7 years professional work experience with preference in health training, accreditation and curriculum development. 
  • S/he must have good understanding of health delivery system and gender issues especially at primary level. Required skills for this position include: organizational, advocacy/facilitation and excellent hands-on skill in use of computer especially MS packages. 
  • Ability to communicate fluently in Hausa is essential.

3.) Programme Assistants (2 Positions): Kano
  • The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing technical assistance and support to the programme Adviser. 
  • S/he will assist the Adviser in particular and the office in general, in coordinating, collating and managing information including meeting reports and documentation of programme activities in relation to the programme log frame.

Qualification:
  • Candidate must possess a minimum of graduate degree in any discipline in Humanities, Social Science or similar field with at least 5 years' experience in a similar role. 
  • S/he must be proficient in computer and have excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. 
  • Previous experience in a similar environment will be an added advantage.

4.) National Accountant: Kano
  • The Accountant will provide financial and accounting support to the Accounts Assistants at state level and the Finance and Admin Manager at the National office. 
  • S/he will operate an effective cash management system, maintain good accounting records and books and prepare monthly and annual financial reports. 
  • The ideal candidate will manage and monitor all office running costs including petty cash disbursements, processing and payment of Consultants' advances, retirements and fees.

Qualification:
  • Interested candidates must have a minimum of a first degree or its equivalent in Accounting or related disciplines. 
  • S/he must have a minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in an accounting or a related organization. S/he must have a strong
  • knowledge and use of Microsoft Spreadsheet and some computerized accounting software. 
  • The ideal candidate must have good communication (written) and inter-personal skills. 
  • Previous experience in a similar environment will be an added advantage.

5.) Accounts Assistants (5 Positions):
  • The Accounts Assistants will be located in each of the five programme states providing financial management and accounting support at the state. 
  • S/he will work with the State Manager for costing and disbursement of funds and the Finance and Admin Manager and National Accountant for general coordination of programme funds from the states.
  • S/he will operate an effective cash management system, maintain good records of all accounting books and prepare periodic financial reports to the programme head office.
  • The ideal candidate will coordinate all office running costs including petty cash, disbursements as well as management of all payment to Consultants.

Qualification:
  • The ideal candidate must have a minimum of a first degree or its equivalent in Accounting, Auditing or any related discipline.
  •  S/he must have a minimum of 3 years' hands-on experience in accounting or auditing in any organization. 
  •  A strong knowledge and hands-on use of Microsoft spreadsheet (Ms. Excel) and other computerized accounting soft-wares is essential for this position. 
  • The ideal candidate must have good inter-personal and communication skills.
  •  Previous experience in a similar donor-funding environment will be an added advantage.

6.) National Logistics and Admin Officer (NLAO): Kano
  • This position will be responsible for admin and logistics duties such as enforcing policies and procedures in the office, planning, organizing venues for workshops or seminars including overseeing suppliers and service providers as well as the maintenance and effective utilization of programme vehicles and all office assets. 
  • S/he will organize prompt hotel bookings and reservations for visiting Consultants and Partners; as well as maintain a register of service providers, such as; car hire services, hotels, embassies, etc. 
  • The ideal candidate will ensure all office equipment is functional, well maintained and always in good condition and also provide support in planning the daily and weekly itinerary for programme drivers including overseeing driver's log-books.

Qualification:
  • Candidates must have a graduate degree in Business Administration, Social or Management Sciences with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role.
  • S/he must have a good knowledge and use of Microsoft Office tools particularly MS Word and Excel.
  • The ideal candidate must have good negotiation, organization, delegation, communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • A basic knowledge in accounting is essential for this position. 
  • Past experience in a similar environment is desirable.

7.) Logistics and Admin Officer (LAO): 5 Positions
  • The successful candidate will be based in all the programme operating states carrying out Logistics and Admin duties at the state level and provide support to the National Logistics and Admin Officer in the National office. 
  • S/he will plan and coordinate workshops and ensure an effective and efficient workflow in the office. 
  • S/he will maintain cordial relationship with service providers and suppliers as well coordinate their activities. 
  • The LAO is responsible for making prompt hotel bookings for visitors e.g. Consultants and Partners and overseeing the maintenance and effective utilization of programme vehicles and assets. 
  • S/he will coordinate the itinerary for programme drivers.

Qualification:
  • Candidates must have a graduate degree in any discipline of arts, humanities or the social sciences.
  • S/he must have a minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role. 
  • S/he must have a good knowledge of MS office tools especially MS Word and Excel. 
  • The ideal candidate must have excellent communication (oral & written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience in a similar environment is desirable.

8.) Front Desk Officer: Kano
  • The ideal candidate will carry out a full range secretarial and reception duties in the National office.
  • S/he will actively be responsible for all hospitality arrangement and upkeep of the office at all times in order to promote a conducive and effective office environment. 
  • Occasionally, s/he will be required to provide support to the Admin and logistics officer in coordinating workshops and meetings that may arise.

Qualification:
  • Candidate must possess a minimum of HND or related qualification with a least 2 years' experience in a similar role. 
  • S/he must be proficient in computer and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


9.) Driver (6 Positions): 5 States
  • This position will be based in each of the five operating States. 
  • The job holder will be responsible for operating the programme vehicle and ensuring general safety for the vehicle at all times. 
  • The successful candidate will also be responsible for pick-ups and other scheduled programme appointments.

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of five years driving experience and not less than an SSCE qualification is required for this position. 
  • Ability to speak, write and read English Language is essential for this position. 
  • Previous experience in a similar role and environment will be an added advantage.
Terms of Employment:
These appointments will be for a contract term of up to five (5) years, with an initial 6 months probationary period. The Programme offers highly competitive salary packages. However, local terms and conditions are applicable.
