John Snow, Inc. (JSI) is a US-based international public health consulting firm and manages two projects/contracts through its integrated office in Abuja, Nigeria. Through the Partnership for Supply Chain Management consortium, JSI implements the Supply Chain Management System (SCMS) project for the US Government as part of the United States President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). The purpose is to establish and operate a safe, secure, reliable and sustainable supply chain management system to procure pharmaceuticals and other products needed for the care and treatment of persons with HIV/AIDS and related infections.

JSI implements the USAID I DELIVER Project, a global technical assistance project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and aimed at increasing the availability of essential health supplies through procurement services and assistance designed to strengthen health commodity supply chains in developing countries.

JSI is looking to employ qualified individuals for the following positions:


Job Title: Logistics Advisor, HIV/AIDS (Abuja)


Job Summary; The Logistics Advisor, HIV/AIDS (Abuja) will support the Nigeria HIV/AIDS supply chain technical assistance to the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH), States Ministry of Health (SMOH), PEPFAR implementing partners, Global Fund supported partners, health facilities and other stakeholders in three states (Bernie, Kogi and Nassarawa), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, and other locations as appropriate. The Logistics Advisor HIV/AIDS will work in collaboration with other organizations that will provide support services in logistics management information system, warehousing and distribution services to the SCMS Project in support of the Nigeria HlV/AIDS supply chain project and reports to the Associate Director, HIV/AIDS.


Job Responsibilities;

  • Support supply chain coordination activities between FMOH, SMOH, PEPFAR and Global Fund partners and SCMS to develop and implement supply chain strategies
  • Provide support on specification of health facilities product requirements to warehouse and distribution service provider(s) to ensure uninterrupted supply of commodities to health facilities
  • Provide support to health facilities and partners for timely collection, collation, review and analysis of logistics reports to ensure that health commodities are timely resupplied to the health facilities for uninterrupted service provisions
  • Provide feedback to health facilities, SMOH and partners on logistics reports for timely decision making on commodities requirements
  • Provide technical support for the annual program-specific quantification as well as the national annual quantification of HIV/AIDS commodities and procurement plans in collaboration with colleagues, stakeholders and partners
  • Coordinate virtual stock management of HIV/AIDS commodities to inform supply plan and procurement decisions across the different funding streams in Nigeria to ensure uninterrupted supply of commodities
  • Support the expansion of the HIV/AIDS supply chain unification project across the country for nationwide supply of health commodities to the facilities
  • Coordinate redistribution of health commodities across facilities to avert expiries and stock out of needed products, and provide support for reverse logistics of expired commodities to appropriate locations for treatment
  • Collaborate with FMOH, SMOH and partners to organize monitoring and support visits to health facilities and provide the needed support for smooth implementation of supply chain activities within the states covered and other locations in the country as appropriate
  • Support the coordination of appropriate stakeholders meetings on supply chain activities to ensure that supply chain information is appropriately shared to inform decision making at the state and national levels
  • Monitor and review the distribution of health commodities to facilities through the warehouse and distribution service provider(s) to ensure conformance with agreed distribution plan
  • Support capacity building activities for Government of Nigeria counterparts and other stakeholders on supply chain activities
  • Contribute to identifying best practices and success stories for JSI Nigeria's quarterly logistics bulletin
  • Contribute to routine monthly, quarterly and annual reports for submission to program funders
  • Perform any other duties as assigned
Job Requirements;
Applicants for this position should possess the following minimum skills/knowledge and qualifications:

  • A Bachelors degree in Pharmacy, Public Health, Logistics Management, Medical Laboratory Science, Business Administration or its equivalent
  • Three to five years of professional experience in health programs, preferably in an international health care supply chain management environment
  • Specific experience in HIV/AIDS, TB, or malaria programs is strongly desired
  • Experience in managing public health programs or projects in Nigeria or similar developing country context
  • Ability to monitor, supervise, and train in health service programs
  • Extensive knowledge of the Nigerian public health sector
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent technical writing and oral presentation skills are highly desired
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to be self-managing
  • Good Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required
  • Ability and willingness to travel in the field
