Beat FM, a reputable radio station in Nigeria require candidate to fill the following vacant positions:

1.)  Programmer / Music Librarian

Location:
Ibadan

Responsibilities:
  • The Programmer/Music Librarian must catalog all the station’s records and tapes.
  • He is usually responsible for pulling the records that the OAP or program director has chosen prior to a show.
  • When having live request shows, the Programmer/Music Librarian may be on hand to pull the requested records from the library.
  • Programmer/Music Librarian is usually responsible for putting used records and tapes back in their proper places.
  • He keeps track of any broken, scratched, or warped records that need replacement
  • In addition, the librarian works with the program director choosing and purchasing new music.
  • The programmer/Music librarian is responsible for various RCS functions such as house keeping, creating station clock ad other duties as directed by the program director.
  • The Programmer/Music Librarian must be an extremely organized individual. His memory must be good enough to remember vintage tapes, records, books, etc.
  • The Programmer/Music Librarian ensures that catalog content is sorted by genre classification, displays correctly and is otherwise suitable for programmed features.
  • Has excellent attendance and positive attitude to the job.

2.)  News Anchor, Reporter and Editor

Location:
Ibadan

Responsibilities:
  • To gather news using contact, sources, through personal interviews, wire services, news briefings by the government or press release sent by companies.
  • They decide when stories will run and come up with innovative ways to present that news
  • Evaluate news leads and tips to develop story ideas.
  • After collecting the information, a reporter or editor compiles the data and writes the report.
  • Gathers and verifies factual information regarding articles through interviews, observation and research.
  • He should follow the latest developments in his beat, that is, a particular field like crime, politics, sports, business etc, and file regular updates on his allotted topic.
  • Organize materials and writes articles based on information obtained, writes about hard news, current affairs, that is the latest developments or incidents that take place.
  • Maintain crucial deadlines in order to provide news stories in a timely fashion.
  • Use various social platforms to provide updates and news stories to the public. Therefore, Will be sent to cover important events and report on them which must make the news.
  • Must correct spelling and grammatical mistakes and ensue the copy is reading smoothly.
  • Must verify details if they seem to be wrong or unclear.
  • If the copy is badly written, he must also re write the copy so that readers can understand the news clearly.
  • He needs to give headlines, captions, slugs, blurbs and search for appropriate inserts to bring life to the news.
  • Must have knowledge of computers and know how to operate the hardware to make the bulletin a success.
  • They interact with sources, employees and the heads of other departments, such as advertising and programming.
  • Anchors news and radio programs to convey news stories to the public.
  • Strong on-air presentation.
  • Observer newsroom leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skill in oral and written form.

3.)  Studio Transmitter Engineer

Location:
Ibadan

Responsibilities:
  • Operates and maintains radio transmitter to broadcast radio and television programs:
  • Moves switches to cut in power to units and stages of transmitter.
  • Monitors lights on console panel to ascertain that components are operative and that transmitter is ready to emit signal.
  • Turns controls to set transmitter on FM and AM assigned by Nigerian broadcast Commission.
  • Monitors signal emission and spurious radiations outside of licensed transmission frequency to ensure signal is not infringing on frequencies assigned other stations.
  • Notifies broadcast studio when ready to transmit. Observes indicators and adjusts controls to maintain constant sound modulation and ensure that transmitted signal is sharp and clear.
  • Tests components of malfunctioning transmitter to diagnose trouble, using test equipment, such as oscilloscope, voltmeters, and ammeters.
  • Disassembles and repairs equipment, using hand tools.
  • May converse with studio personnel to determine cause of equipment failure and to solve problem. 
  • May operate microwave transmitter and receiver to receive or send programs to or from other broadcast stations.
  • Has excellent attendance and positive attitude to the job.

4.)  Sales / Marketing Representative

Location:
Ibadan

Responsibilities:
  • The sales/marketing representative is responsible to the sales director.
  • Present and sell company products and services to current and potential clients.
  • Prepare action plans and schedules to identify specific targets and to project the number of contacts to be made.
  • Follow up on new leads and referrals resulting from field activity.
  • Identify sales prospects and contact these and other accounts as assigned.
  • Prepare presentations, proposals and sales contracts.
  • Develop and maintain sales materials.
  • Establish and maintain current client and potential client relationships.
  • Prepare paperwork to activate and maintain contract services.
  • Manage account services through quality checks and other follow-up.
  • Identify client’s needs and concerns and proffer solutions.
  • Prepare a variety of status reports, including activity, closings, follow-up, and adherence to goals.
  • Communicate opportunities, special developments, information, or feedback gathered through field activity to appropriate company staff.
  • Coordinate company staff to accomplish the work required to close sales.
  • Develop and implement special sales activities to increase revenue.
  • Develop programme ideas to suit client needs.
  • Submit daily and weekly sales report.
  • Participate in marketing events such as seminars, trade shows, and telemarketing events.
  • Monitor, evaluate and report activities embarked on by competition.
  • Collection of orders and ensuring that traffic schedules same daily.
  • Follow-up for collection of payment.
  • Coordinate schedules and delivery of adverts.
  • Take turns in the preparation of the daily news roundup for prospecting.
  • Provide on-the-job training to new sales employees and interns.
  • Has excellent attendance and positive attitude to the job.

5.)  Traffic Personnel

Location:
Ibadan

Responsibilities:

  • The Traffic personnel is responsible to the sales director. This individual will have specific duties dealing with advertisements, commercials, public service announcements (PSAs), or programming.
  • Is responsible for typing the daily radio schedule. This schedule is called a log. It contains all the radio commercials and public service spot announcements.
  • Without the generation of a computerized traffic log the Traffic personnel must keep typing and retyping schedules as additions or deletions and corrections come in.
  • Once the system becomes computerized, the Traffic personnel will be responsible for typing information into the computer.
  • The Traffic Personnel is responsible for reviewing radio time sales orders and verifying the completeness of the data required for the log. This must be done for all forms of advertising. For each commercial the Traffic personnel must make sure he or she has the sponsor name, the date and time it is supposed to air, the length of the commercial, and whether it is to be live or recorded.
  • If there is information missing, the individual will have to contact the salesperson involved to obtain it.
  • The Traffic personnel also include the name of the OAP responsible for airing the commercial.
  • The traffic personnel is to keep daily register for all orders received from the marketing team.
  • Traffic personnel are to keep records of the advertisements to make sure that commercials are run when they are scheduled.
  • The Traffic personnel will deliver and pick up the completed log sheets daily.
  • They are responsible for reviewing the daily log sheets after use to check for authorized changes made during the broadcast day. They may deliver cassettes of commercial announcements or ad copy to the correct personnel i.e. sales.
  • The Traffic personnel may also be responsible for removing the commercial cassettes from the studio and storing them in the correct Location.
  • The Traffic personnel is expected to review advertisers’ requests for specific dates and times at which they want their commercials to run. If the assistant finds that the date or time is not available, he or she may recommend other times or dates that are available.
  • Traffic Personnel is required to preview advertisements before they are aired to make sure that they do not contain objectionable material. This is important because radio stations are governed by the NBC (National Broadcast Commission) and must adhere to its rules and regulations.
  • Traffic personnel to adhere to NBC’s rules on maximum minutes for commercial.
  • The individual is responsible for keeping the daily commercial log up to NBC standards.
  • Coordinate all compliance issues received from agencies and clients.
  • The Traffic personnel may also be responsible for performing clerical duties including billing, correspondence, filing, and answering phones
  • He or She is to monitor on-air personalities to ensure correct delivery of hypes, commercials, PSA’s etc.
  • He or She is to make sure that enough PSA’s are aired at no fee for non-profit groups or community service agencies.
  • He or She works with the stations General Manager, Sales Director and possibly the station owner creating a sequence for the running of commercials.
  • He or She should understand the station, its programming and its advertisers to be successful in this job.
  • He or She will constantly liaise with the programming department for clock creation.
  • He or She is directly responsible to the sales director.
  • Has excellent attendance and positive attitude to the job.

  • Other duties as assigned.
