Job Description;
Onne, a suburb to Port Harcourt is the principal gateway to East Nigeria, is experiencing high growth rates. West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) is located in Onne and has an approved expansion project. This expansion is designed to address the capacity shortfall as well as upgrade the yard (and related drainage) to a more acceptable and safe standard so it will better cater this growing market.
To support these expansion plans in WACT, APM Terminals is looking for a Project Implementation Manager. This position will operate on-site and reports to the Business Implementation Department in APM Terminals’ Head Office in The Hague, The Netherlands.
The assignment is for approx.1,5 years.
The Project Implementation Manager is responsible for the implementation of the expansion project, the main objective being to have the project completed within the agreed time-frame and cost, and within the defined levels of quality and scope.
Key Responsibilities;
- Manage the implementation of the project in close liaison with functional departments and support function within APM Terminals, as well as management of the existing facility for expansion projects.
- Prepare a Project Charter for the project and ensure sign off by all stakeholders.
- Establish, maintain and execute the project schedule with input from and follow up of the functional departments.
- Lead the project implementation team, including but not limited to internal support functions and external consultant engineers.
- Ensure the project is managed within budget as well as ensure accurate administration and reporting.
- Conclude and optimize agreements with business partners (suppliers, sub-contractors, and partners) to deliver on the business plan.
- Provide overall management of the work of the consultant engineers and vendors including the appropriate contract management, as well as conflict resolution.
- Make use of proven project management methodology by risk-, change- & stakeholder management in the project.
- Deliver timely and detailed reporting tracking the progress of the project, including periodic updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Deploy best practices soliciting input from centres of expertise within APM Terminals as well as contribute best practices to the APM Terminals organization.
- At least 5 years of relevant project management experience / knowledge of implementation of large infrastructure projects.
- Experience with port operations (containers, bulk, ro/ro, and marine services) is an advantage.
- Preferred certificate holder of a renowned project management institute (PMI/IPMA). APM Terminals uses PMBOK based project management methodology.
- Ability to provide leadership, obtain cooperation and build teams to meet objectives.
- Seasoned in negotiating and managing agreements with business partners on a practical level as well as in terms of the contractual details.
- Ability to drive and move the project forward under diverse business context.
- Working experience in emerging economies.
- Preferred civil engineering, technical or business management education.
- Sensitive to cultural diversity and experience in a multicultural environment,
- Willingness to work in a hardship location.
