Since 2003, Search for Common Ground  (SFCG) has worked through its multi-media division. Common Ground Productions, in Nigeria, from 2004 to 2008 producing and broadcasting a TV series targeting a youth audience. In 2010, SFCG began building its engagement in Nigeria, initiating a multi-year conflict transformation program, utilising media and support to civil society in order to expand and deepen the impact of the Common Ground approach in Nigeria. SFCG has established a permanent presence in Abuja as an operational base for a number of initiatives comprising the country program.

SFCG works to support peaceful resolution of conflict in the areas of Nigeria such as the Niger Delta and Jos. SFCG Nigeria recently began an 18-month project which focuses on Support in Promoting Building a Peace Architecture in Jos.

Job Tittle: Communications and Learning Manager - Nigeria

Location: Jos, Nigeria

Summary of Position

  • The Communications and Learning Manager will manage the media component of Jos office activities, working closely with SFCG in Nigeria’s partners to produce radio programmes.
Job Responsibilities;    
Duties for the Communications and Learning Manager include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate all day-to-day media activities of SFCG’s programme in Jos;
  • Work with partners to support the design, launch and on-going broadcasting of radio drama programmes;
  • Be the first line of contact when problems arise for repair and troubleshooting;
  • Coordinate and facilitate, programmatic and journalism trainings;
  •  Meet regularly with SFCG Nigeria staff to review progress of projects against project objectives, indicators and deliverables, and give meaningful input and recommendations into the project management and institutional learning;
  • Ensure media projects are on track and to troubleshoot as needed;
  • Participate in and contribute towards internal evaluation processes; and
  • Be directly engaged in the continuing development of the organisation, its mission, and its staff, through the sharing of experience and knowledge.

Job Qualifications;     
  • A minimum of 5 years of work experience in design and implementation of media programmes;
  •  At least two (2) years of technical experience in creating and hosting radio programmes;
  • The demonstrated technical capacity to provide support and guidance to project staff on   design and implementation of media programmes;
  • The demonstrated ability to successfully facilitate using participatory methods;
  • High standards of integrity, professionalism, and impartiality;
  • The ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment;
  •  A proven track record of being proactive;
  • The ability to multi-task and work to meet tight deadlines;
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, e-studio as well as web browsers
  • Fluency in English, both verbally and in writing.
